Good piece. Read the history of the Porsche 917 and it’s readily apparent that Piech was a uniquely driven manager, iron-fisted and obsessive to a fault. Many of the car’s early failings were the result of his insistence on low weight and drag above all else. His career is thus littered with great accomplishments and Machiavellian political maneuvers, tempered by great hubris.
